homosexuality has always been with us. It is as much a part of the human identity as heterosexuality. In fact, the ancient Greeks glorified homosexuality. I don't believe there has been an increase in the number of people who are homosexual. What HAS happened, I believe, is that the human race is growing up. We are maturing, and coming to see that being different from the majority is not the same as being wrong. This has led to a relaxing of social attitudes, making it a little more comfortable than it was ten years ago to "come out". This may lead some of us to think that there are more homosexuals than ever before. Not so. it's just that it' has become a bit easier to be proud and happy to be homosexual. It was a crime for many years for homosexual acts to be performed, and until the middle 1970s, the American Society of Psychiatrists viewed homosexuality as an illness! No wonder so many kept quiet about the reality of their sexuality.

Many homosexuals have children. Homosexual women often decide to have children, as it is easy to find a sperm donor. And homosexual men can also choose to father children.
Also there is a study showing that women whose brothers are homosexual have more children compared to women who doesn't have homosexual brothers. Perhaps an uncle without children have more time to help raise his nieces and nephews, and therefore his sister will choose to have more children.
There is also now found homosexuality in more than 1500 animal species (for example sheep, fruit bats, dolphins, western gulls and orangutans) which indicates that homosexuality has been around for a long time and therefore have nothing to do with population growth.

do you have evidence that there has been an increase in the prevalance of homosexuals? as others have pointed out, you are probably just more aware of them nowadays because it is more acceptable for them to 'come out'. i imagine the prevalance of homosexuals has been constant over the years, and probably always will be.
as for your question, in order for nature to intervene in population growth, there would have to be a change in the genetic level of humans. indeed, there is some evidence that there is a genetic basis for homosexuality.
from an evolutionary perspective, research has posited that the reason homosexuality has survived through 'natural selection' (Darwin), could be that while homosexuals tend not to produce their own offspring (and thus stabilise population growth), they tend to make excellent 'providers' as support to their extended family, as uncles/ aunts etc. so while genes for homosexuality may seem contradictory in the sense that they would not lead to the propogation of the human species (which is nature's ultimate aim, according to Darwin), they would in effect lead to better 'quality' offspring of the rest of the population.
so to summarise, it is possible that homosexuality may be 'selected for' in order to resolve population growth, however, this is not a recent phenomenon. also, this is only one theory for the explanation of homosexuality, there are many other theories (e.g. hormonal, developmental, etc.).
Hope this helped

There is no increase in homosexuality. As stated earlier the numbers range between 5-10% of the world's population but because of the push for equal human rights and because of media exposure such as television, movies and the internet, you're seeing it more openly now than ever in the past.
As for the person saying it might be God's way of thinning the population, that's just absurd. If "God" loved mankind I don't think he/she/it would make others so intolerable of one of his beloved creations. I also don't believe "God" would call anything he created an abomination.

Homosexuality always existed. Psychology research attempted to explain this phenomena, and it is considered a sexual deviation (i.e. out of normality). I'm a person to accept every person, regardless of their culture, race, sexual orientation, height, weight or intelligence, and even though i might not agree with all of them, i'll accept them because they are human beings, like myself and everyone else.
In today's world, homosexuality is not only a sign of freedom to express your independence, but it also became a "fashion". Just like the "emo" fashion, which encourages the sensible, feminine side of any individual, be it male or female, indirectly sends a message that homosexuality is Okay.
As a psychology student you come to understand and not judge, but i have to admit i have been horrified by the pictures i saw on google when i searched for "emo". With the risk of getting all the homosexuals and emo's on my case, this is my opinion.

Wow! I've always wondered the same thing. It things like a kind of naturally evolutionary thing that God might have set in place to curb population growth when the world started to become densely populated. I've never heard anyone else say this, but I've always wondered too.

unlikely, and there is not any prevalent develop in homosexuality in any united states. people who're gay are greater interior the open now and are vocal approximately their concerns. This creates greater coverage yet not greater truthfully gays. that is like the shark assaults that befell after Jaws got here out, the sharks did not see the action picture, they have been merely doing what they do, yet all and sundry interior the rustic (alongside with landlocked states) become reporting shark sightings and assaults after seeing the flick. we don't need an even bigger boat in spite of everything.

Homosexuals have always been around. The Romans and Greeks of long ago myth and legend, believed that the love between two men was pure and sacred. Man and woman was simply for procreation. Besides if your alluding to AIDS/HIV I believe that heterosexuals and intravenous drug users have more than helped to spread it and many lesser lethal STDs around. Basically everyone who has unprotected sex at any point in their life or drug users who share needles while doing drugs will help to decimate each other; not just a minor percentage of the race.

I have never thought about it that way before and I think it may be a possibility.
I always believed that there were no more homosexuals today than in the past its just that you hear about them more now because its generally acceptable.
