That is: does brushing merely massage your scalp or does it stimulate your mind, and make it less easy for you to fall asleep? Or is it vice versa where it makes the hair grow during sleep as other moleculaes are synthesised in your brain during rest?

If you make it part of your bed-time routine it might acutally help you sleep. Humans are creatures of habit. If you get in the habit of brushing your hair every night before bed it will make you sleepy.

no, not at all. there's no difference. but in all actuality it is better to have your hair wrapped up or braided or pinned up instead of sleeping with it down because the friction with the tossing and turning with the pillow causes damage, split ends and tangle. but if you brush it, tie it in a scarf or wrap it, or if you wear rollers roll it up, that way it will be more manageable in the morning and if you wrap it it has more body to it. as far as it being a relaxer for you to fall asleep it's all in your mind, it's different for everybody.

I like brushing my hair before I go to bed, more relaxing with no tangles. I have also heard that braiding your hair before you go to sleep helps it to grow quicker if that's something your interested in.
