Astringent Toner

Astringents contain more alcohol than toners. I would only reccommend astringents to an adult if they had extremely oily skin and/or large pores since it is very cleansing of all oils. Astringents are mostly used by teenagers since they are having to deal with more acne at that time in their life (sorry about that). You should be careful with astringents because they can be very drying, and those dry flakes that form on your face can clog up your pores and cause more blemishes.

Toners contain less alcohol, and usually just aid in evening out the moisture on a person's face. Most toners claim to be "moisturizing," which I tend to think of as meaning: "I'm not as drying as astringents." I use a toner to remove my makeup at the end of the day, and as a way of removing a slight amount of oil before I go to sleep. In my opinion the best toners contain witch hazel, which anyone who believes in home remedies can tell you, can make just about anything better.

My favorite brand of toner is Thayer's Witch Hazel with Rose Water. It is very light, and has a great scent; my girlfriend goes crazy when she smells it!!

Toners vs. Astringents: Both are cleansers, but toners should have no alcohol and are used for more sensitive skin. Astringents may contain a small amount of alcohol and are designed for oily skin or combination dry/oily skin.

Astringent: a substance, such as witch hazel or alcohol, that causes skin tissue to tighten. Helpful in controling surface oils and lowering skin’s pH after cleansing.

Toner: a milder astringent- should be used by people with dry or sensitive skin.

astrignets and toners are very similar.. both are used to close the pores after cleanisng the face - Astringents are typically have high doses of alcohol which to someon who likes that sqeaky clean feeling or something who is extremely oily is usually recommended for a toner has less alcohol and it used more so as a PH balancer to get the skin back to is natural state so it does not cause irritation after cleansing

astringent has alchol and is mainly used for to dry skin out. toner is used to balance skin and can be used to help moisturize or dry out so it's good for combination skin.
