as an engineer and a preventative maintenance freak i have become a firm believer in the use of synthetic lubricants. my question is has anyone tried royal purple and is it worth the 6 bucks a quart vs mobil ones 4.5 bucks a quart?? royal purple makes some pretty big claims in their advertisement sheet. does any of them hold water or are they just a gimic?? tell me your real world results and dont be afraid to get technical with this skeptical engineer!!!!!

You can go farther between changes, it's one of the best, but if you want the best get Redline :)

royal purple is good stuff on horsepower tv they did a dyno run on a late model camaro before and after and picked up 5 horsepower. just by changing the oil. I have a 99 ss and i can say when i change my oil i can feel somewhat of a horsepower increase and you can see a difference in the oil pressure as the oil gets older you can see a pressure drop on the gauge If you are looking for extended oil change then look at amsoil they are the original synthetic they have up to 35000 mile drain intervals. a few years ago they said that the major oil companys would offer ext. drain intervals and what do you know they are all at it.Synthetic oils are engineered so the microscopic paticles are all the same size this is what makes it perform better. By knowing the size you can determine exactly how it will perform. Change it youself the money you save can be the difference between conv. or synthetic. Go to the jiffy lube nd you are sure to get the shaft so far my friend have had leaks the wrong filter and too much oil in their cars do it yourself an dit will be done right.

people will hate my answer but all I can say is that it is the truth. I own and operate 3 Pennzoil quick lubes. I have been doing this for 19 years now. Ok keep in mind I am a Pennzoil store. There is no difference between Pennzoil, Mobil 1, Royal Purple or any of the other synthetics out there. I have seen first hand and have been to countless meetings about oil. Every company that holds the meeting will show charts that shows their oil is better than the others. Go to a Pennzoil meeting and what do you think has been proven to be the best oil. Go to a Mobil meeting and guess what they are now best. Point is they are all great oils. They are all man made with no impurities. That is what makes synthetic oil so much better. Conventional oil has to be purified over and over to get all the impurities out. They get 99% but that 1% is a big deal when compared to synthetic. The only misconception about synthetic oil is the drain intervals. You should change your oil at the same 5000-7500k mile interval whether you use synthetic or not. The additive package is the same in both oils and those additives still wear out. And the oil still gets dirt and dust in it. Whatever your owners manual says to change the oil at is what you should do synthetic or not. And 3000k miles is too soon. Most quick lube centers would like to change that but that is the fact. I have known that for years and have made the proper adjustments in my shops for that. Lastly if you have to add a quart of oil just think about the availability of it. Royal Purple probably not too easy to get a hold of. Mobil 1 every store that sells oil will have it. I sell more mobil 1 than any synthetic oils because that is what I recommend for that reason only.

ok then tell me what is different with synthetic oils smart guy. you go to these forums and it is nothing but a bunch of opinions. No real facts. You dont know what you are talking about. And its great you change your own oil. You are the kind of person I never want to see in one of my stores because you have no idea and think you know it all. I get those kind of people all the time. they come in and try to tell me how to do my job I dont go to a bank and tell them how to count money. I assume thet are properly trained to do so.

For more information than you ever want to know about oil.. go to the "Bob is the oil guy forum" The guys there have tested every oil out there I just use dino and change it before it has a chance to get dirty, but Mobile 1 seems to be the highest rated. The do talk a lot about Royal Purple and Amsoil a lot there too.

first off where can you find M-1 for $4.50 a quart?

never listen to a quick lube place. they dont know what they are talking about. all oils are different. they have different basestock and add packs and so on. like the other guy said go to http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?Cat=0&C=8 and they will show you the light on what oils are better than others and so on.

never let a quickey lube place change your oil. change it yourself and save alot of money. its not that hard to do to begin with.
