I own at least one product of nearly every makeup company out there. You can take advantage of all the money I've wasted and all the things I've learned about makeup, and that will make my foolishness seem a little worthwhile!

First of all, Loreal and Estee Lauder own most of the major department store brands and drugstore brands, which means that a lot of the cheaper makeup is just as good as the expensive stuff, but it has cheaper packaging.

Drugstore products worth buying:

Revlon eyeliners and lipglosses and powder blushes
Loreal mascaras and lipsticks and foundations
(Loreal owns Lancome, and the two lines are nearly identical. I love both of them, but Loreal is 1/3 the price!)
Maybelline lipsticks and eyeshadows and mascaras
Neutrogena foundations (especially Visibly Even)
Sally Hansen loose face powders

Department store brands worth buying:

Bobbi Brown blushes (my favorite)
Nars blushes (my other favorite, but expensive)
Flirt! blushes, eyeshadows, lipsticks and glosses (sold only at Kohl's or kohls.com)
American Beauty blushes (only at Kohl's again)

Nail Polish:

Sally Hansen
Maybelline
OPI

I hope this helps you. Like I said, I've wasted a lot of money over the years, but I've learned a lot about what's out there and what products really work.

My favorite brand is MAC. Sometimes it is worth the extra money but to tell you the truth, there are some great drug-store brands that are just as good. A useful website to find what brands people like and which product is www.makeupalley.com , there are a lot of helpful feedback of products on there.

No not usually. Like I wouldnt buy stuff from the dollar store or something but for the most part revlon or something works almost as good as the more expensive brands. The only thing I would splurge on is probably foundation or concealer - but everything else is really not worth it at all.

Bare Minerals is my favorite brand, and it is worth the money. The foundation is about 30.00 but the tub has lasted me a year and a half!. There are also other products in the line that have lasted me even longer.
To go along with this brand, I like Laura Geller's Spackle and Eye Spackle. These are primers that help smooth out imperfections.

I kind of doubt your a graphic designer because you would not be asking for advice from random people you don't even know. But I know American Eagle (ages 11-30), Abercrombie and Fitch(12-18), Hollister(12-18), Wet Seal (13-18) and Forever 21(14-30) are really popular.

bare minerals and jane iredale are my top favorites for foundation (power & mineral liquid), eye, blush, & lipsticks. Mascara I will pick up Almay or others. I like minerals with nothing else in them. Physician's Formula (I think that is the name) is available in the drug stores and is a mineral product that is also good. It is worth the extra money, it lasts longer, and I get more complements on how good my skin looks then any other make-up I've used.

I am a MAC girl, it isn't that much more money, really. Drug store brands have gone up alot in the past few years. Plus you have someone there to find the right shade for you. MAC stays on my face all day...love it love it! Try their shampoo & conditioner too it is amazing!

If the make up works well with your skin type and requires little touch up then what does it matter but it is nice to splurg and get expensive things every so often.

oh jeeze my favorite make up as far as more expensive things would have to be MAC, Smashbox, and Bare Esstenials [i believe is what it is called]. though they all have a hefty price tag, they last for what seems like an eternity and are very light and fun. you will most deffiantley see those names gracing my holiday list. : ]

Bobbi Brown for their wide natural color range, Shu Uemura for their skincare line and their foundation. I use Maybelline too for their lipstick and Loreal for their mascara. I would pay more for make up suit my style. It doesn't matter where they're sold.
