So here is the situation: I was scanning some pics and backing up some files on a CD when all of a sudden the screen turns blue and has some white writing. Ive seen this message before but I cant remember what it says though. Well anyway, I cut off the the computer and when I cut it on again I got this screen with lots of text and at the bottom it says "primary master hard disk fail" then it says press f1 to continue or delete for settings. Ive already toyed with the settings (changing priority of HD, making it autodetect) and still the computer will not start up. So, then I just got the restore cd pressed f1 and this screen pops up saying "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" so I press enter and then I get this "no hard disk found. System recovery cannot be continued". So is there anything else I can do???

It really means what it says. Hard Disk fail.

First, unplug and open your PC. Trace the power cord to the Hard Drive and make sure it is still plugged firmly in place. Next, confirm that the gray ribbon is firmly seated in both the Hard Drive and the Motherboard controller. Careful and not to press so hard that you break the motherboard or the connector to the Hard drive.

Replug your PC and restart. If you get the same message, your Hard Drive is bad. But not all is lost. You can still recover your data as long as you DO NOT format and reinstall Windows.

If you need help on that, just ask.

There isn't much you can do at this point - it sounds like your hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. Sorry

If you have a lot of data not backed up, and if the data is really important to you, there are different companies that are able to retrieve the information for you - but at a very high cost (over $1,000).

Best thing to do in the mean time is to purchase a new hard-drive and start fresh.

This is open problem of Bad Sector error on boot record. Try ur floppy disks to boot up to windows and then go for my computer and then right click on C: drive icon the go to properties>>Tools tab>>in error checking>>click on check now..>>check both options....
But but if u have'nt floppy, go to any friend and create a boot disk.. and go for this process.
and after success do'nt forget to full backup of ur essential data in another drive. Because this problem has'nt any perfect solution.

I had a similar thing happen; I had to get a new hard drive. I have an Emachine, and I could not put in any hard drive you could get in the store, you had to get one from them. If I put in any type of hard drive, the restore CD that came with it would not install. Best of luck.
