Mine was about $3,000 for a homebirth and that included all prenatal tests, exams in her clinic, the homebirth, and mine & Baby's exam after delivery & 6 weeks after delivery (and the baby's PKU testing). I could have had my baby at a hospital & insurance would have paid all but $75 of the bill, but I chose to pay out of pocket for the midwife. It was well worth the price.
I prefered my midwife and homebirth over my hospital birth with a Dr. a million times over.

But some insurance companies will pay for midwives & some will deliver in birthing centers & hospitals, too.

And not all midwives who aren't RN nurse midwives are bad "lay" midwives. It just depends on your state. My state has licensed nurse midwives and "certified" documented midwives. Both have to pass the same state exam and follow the same rules. So my midwife wasn't an RN but had more experience than the nurse-midwives in are area because she used to delivery babies all the time in the hospiatl in England (where doctors only deliver them if there is a medical problem).

How Much Is A Midwife

Estronaut.com says that is about 12% lower than having a physician deliver. This, of course, would just be the average. Call around to midwifery centers or individual midwives in your area for more accurate information.

If you have insurance that covers maternity it will probably cost about the same to you out-of-pocket as an OB delivery.

This, of course, assumes that we are not comparing a midwife delivery to a c-section!

When I looked into it here in the Midwest, (year ago) the average cost was 3,500 for prenatal, labor ,delivery + post pregancy care that is with no complications the cost goes up dramatically w/ complications if you choose to use a midwife make sure they are a RN Midwife rather than a "lay" midwife (not a nurse) to find this out you will have to ask. Good Luck

Well if you are a public patient in australia you pay not one cent to have a baby, you dont even have to pay for your appointments. If you are a private patient(insurance) in australia i think its about a $2000 or $3000 bill after you have your baby, but thats not even including all the appointments for the whole 9months. This is all in hospital and thats about all i know. If you are public, you dont choose who delivers your baby, if you are private then i guess you get who you want? but it also depends on a few things too.
Oh and also, if you are in australia, after your baby is born you get $4000 this year, its going up to $5000 in June next year though. If you have twins then its double that.

Do you live in Canada? If you do, check your province, many midwives and doulas are covered under basic health care.

it all depends on your midwife, if she is private pay then she can name her own price if she takes your insurance then you pay what the insurance will not pay.
