I am not really sure what you are asking here.

The United States officially entered the conflict after the attack on the Pearl Harbor naval base on Dec. 7, 1941. However, the US began to provide direct material support to Great Britain and her allies on March 11, 1941 through the Lend-Lease Act. (That is about 9 months prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.)

The US also took part in the Battle of the Atlantic, which was an effort by Germany to starve the British Isles by sinking the shipping they needed to import enough food. The conflict started in 1939, and German U-boats were very careful to avoid sinking American shipping or engaging any US warships that were escorting merchant ships.

To provide support for the Brits, Pres. Roosevelt extended the zone that America claimed as our own waters. (Called the "Pan-American Security Zone".) US warships had some pretty hairy showdowns with U-boats.

American volunteers were also directly involved in combat prior to the US entry into the war, although they did so without direct approval from the US government. The most famous of these was probably the Flying Tigers, a group of fighter pilots working as mercenaries for the Chinese.

Below you will find some links that lead you articles that will discuss the Lend-Lease Act, the Battle for the Atlantic, and the Flying Tigers.

Do you really have to ask this? I'm sure you have a text book and it takes less than a minute to find it on the internet.
