My friend and I (we're minors) are going to:
a) sneak out at midnight-ish
b) write weird messages, not profane or offensive ones, on friends' driveways

What are some possible LEGAL consequences of these actions?

I forgot to add that it would be written in sidewalk chalk, which washes off.

Yes its illegal. The consequences are going to be .... you and your friend going to each house and cleaning it up. Just like when people toilet paper. A few years ago when i was a minor my brother and i went around drawing on people garage doors in chalk...long story short we got caught and had to go around and clean every single garage.

Have fun ... :)

ps...i keep reading some of these answers (HAHA)...your not going to go juvenile jail and your not going to be charged as long as its not bad words

Go be a teenager

None if you used no profane, or offensive messages or words and use chalk, Chalk will wash away with a hose or disappear soon with no damage. but be warned that someone could harm you or have you arrested for malicious damage.
Some people hav eno sense of humor . epeciallay when they wake up to weird messages all over their sidewalks.:):)

Trespassing, vandalizing private property -- I'm no lawyer or cop or anything, but I'd say it's illegal.

Doesn't matter if the chalk washes off. If someone threw rotten tomatoes in your face, they couldn't excuse it away by claiming that you can just go take a shower.

It's called trespassing, and in some jurisdictions, may be considered criminal mischief. It could also be classified as a hate crime or the making of terrorist threats, depending upon what you write. The punishment varies depending upon the particular facts, but is generally severe in any case, even for minors, with the possibility of juvenile detention, loss or delay of driving privileges, fines, or community service.

I suggest you stick to video games and truth or dare (without breaking the law) on your sleepovers.

It depends on whether your locality has a curfew for minors.

Other than that, writing messages on driveways, profane or not, could be considered vandalism. You could possibly be arrested if caught.

Sounds like fun.
Don't get caught. Use washable paints/chalks. Don't accept rides, candy, etc from strangers.

You might want to rethink that again.
You could be charged w/destroying property
Malicious mischief
Depending on the amount of damage you do you could be charged with a felony.

Ignorance, when voluntary, is criminal and a man may be properly charged with that evil which he neglected or refused to learn how to prevent.
