If you really feel it is pertinent information, and if you quote it, precede it with why, and after the quote tie it all together. Don't just throw a quote into it without the proper explanations to go with it or your "audience" will wonder WHY it belongs there.

Quoting other people kinda takes away the 'personal' part of personal statement.

only if you have an excellent reason for doing so. if its inspirational, it may come across as being cheesy, so be very careful. something like that could turn off the reader to you instantly
