My problem is that every place says that they will give me a call back and they never do. Except for one publication company that sent a letter saying they will keep me in mind when a position opens up. I am getting very frustrated and feel that no one wants to give me a chance.

Don't know what your major is nor what kind of jobs you are applying for but....

Maybe you need to be more aggressive. Look for jobs on Yahoo, monster, careerbuilder, craigslist, jobs.com, & any others. They have lots of job-hunting recommendations...

Good Luck

It is a tough job market for all ages and all professions. It behooves you to create a phenomenal resume, apply to more jobs than you would imagine and follow up on them with a phone call. The more persistent you are the more likely you are to get a job. Use the connections you may have in any possible way as many companies like to hire people who they know will be quality, good workers. And then, work, work, work. Finding a job is a full-time job in and of itself. The stronger worker you are at the process of securing a job, the stronger worker you will be at the job itself.

If you have places that you are really interested in, call them back and ask how things are going with the hiring process. I believe that really makes a difference. It will show them you are really interested and will keep you fresh in their mind. Sometimes the process is taking longer than they thought, or sometimes they have blown you off, but at least you'll know where you stand, and you might look better in their eyes.

My personal favorite is the current version of "What color is your Parachute" - no one is much of an expert. How can a person be good at job hunting if they have had years of experience? Read the book and do what it says.

Call them back and bug them. Let them know you really want it. Don't play it cool. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
