No. So long as the human has the mind emotions will be a part of the mind.Exactly like the pain is for the physical body.

If I would have to answer a similar question " Can humans live without pain?" the answer will be , again, No. The pain will be there . But humans can overcome/ ignore/ brush aside pain. Many many do it with will power.

Emotion is the equivalent of pain in the mind. It will be there for all. But , emotions can be overcome. Many saints and persons with that determination do overcome the effects of emotions.

In fact spiritual teachings are towrads our overcoming the emotions , happy or sad.

Even if we choose to try to live without emotion, would we? Could we?
Can we bond and attachment from this world and live, hermitlike, away from humans? Can human ever be inanimate objects, lacking feelings and emotions. The answer is a clear NO.
Our senses will still feel, hear, taste, see, etc and all these, singly or in combination will somehow stir up some stimuli in our interaction with the environment.
A piece of wood/stone/inanimate object lacks what we have, and therefore will be incapable of arousing emotion.

Technically yes we will still continue to exsist but what use would it be? Emotions for better or worse are part of what makes us human. Sure we let them get in the way at times but such is the way of things. I for one am glad I have them. I couldn't see life as an emotionless automiton.

Sure ther are times that I'd wish I couldn't feel anything and didn't want to feel certain things again but I took away some valuable lessons from it and I'm happy that I was able to.

Let's face it life would be really boring without them.

Yes, but it has to do with how long you can stand to be removed from other people, from live. Because to experience live you have let yourself be open to anything and everything, that has too especially do with emotionally. Because as a soul or as a human being you have to grow and that grow. And as a human you can only grow emotionally and no other way. So in the end you will have to face your emotions no matter what you have done to avoid them. So you can only prolong, what has to happen and what is going to take place in this live or the next if necessary. So you have to let yourself be vulnerable, or this live won't be worth living. Sorry, I hate that too.

perplexing to assert. Emotion is a double-edged sword. Emotion brought about wars basically as emotion prevented them. Emotion leads to greed basically as emotion urges benevolence. Emotion leads to homicide basically as emotion finally ends up contained in the saving of lives. What might want to the international be like with out emotion? possibly people might want to be triggered through the primal favor for survival and that favor on my own. this can convey about alternatives that are both strong and undesirable.

Personally I don't think so.

Maybe we can be unemotional in some situations but we cannot live our whole lives without emotion. Look at how quickly babies learn to smile....they are expressing an emotion, happiness, when they cry they are expressing their unhappiness. Since we learn emotions at such a young age how can we live without them.

Even animals have emotions, dogs wag their tails when they are happy, cats purr.

We can't live without emotion, it is part of us, our functioning and the way we develop and handle our life.

yeah, it might sound a bit redundant but it wouldn't be the same!

do you mean can humans that live without emotions exist like sociopaths? i'd have to say 'no' because even sociopaths have something in their emotional sphere surely! i know nothing about it but that's what i feel!

how would they think eat breathe or reason otherwise? how would they have values or even just one value worth lifting up a hand to do something for that value? there wouldn't even be pointlessness because even that is some sort of emotion.

no! it defies natural law: nature abhors a vacuum

if you mean 'can humans survive without the concept or actuality of emotions' then equally, no.

or at least we wouldn't be 'human' we'd be some new sort of vegetable.

As a psych nurse I took care of a patient void of all emotion. She was catonic.

I do know that babies that don't get physical touch affection or attention grow up with very limited emotions.

Now.......if you took a person who had experieced emotions then forbid them from expressing them and asked them to not feel them, Then we are talking a different story. The emotions would be stuffed and all sorts of issues would happen becasue of that.

It depends on your definition of "live". Does to live mean to just live as a multicellular organism, or as a human being? Humans can live without emotions, but it would be a hollow shell of a life, with not much conscience of the world around us. Even animals have emotions, which are derived from basic instincts and basic feelings written into our genetic programming. Without emotions, a species would not be able to survive for very long. Emotions,or basic instincts, help us adapt to our environment and increase our chance of survival exponentially. Emotions such as love can help us, as in the process of reproduction (as in not just randomly mating like most animals do). Empathy and compassion help us be better human beings and help our species survive and flourish, in several ways. Emotions such as hatred and jealousy and greed hurt our species in just as many ways as our good emotions influence us. Many tragedies and bad things that occur in the world can be traced back to these basic emotions that comprise the dark side of humanity. Humans can live without emotions, but in several ways the world would be better off without them, as well as our very own species. Yet we need them, just as we need each other. We can live without them, yet we can't live without them. It's a compromise between the dark side of humanity and the good side; a balance that influences the world, more than we could imagine.

Alright..... Look at this from a biological stand point for a moment. We're animals. Our survival depends on three things. Food, safety and reproduction, none of which really require emotions. So yeah, it's very possible, especially since every other animal on earth does it.
