1. Title theme from Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (Dennis McCarthy).
Reason: I probably know more astrophysics than any other beach bum on Earth.

2. Title theme from Morrowind (Jeremy Soule).
Reason: The tune radiates greatness and destiny, toward which I always strived... in my own way.

3. Betrayal in Antara Overture (David Henry).
Reason: It's the only music I could ever go to sleep happily listening to.

4. A Touch of Spring (Purple Motion).
Reason: The music evokes the renaissance of life after the death of winter.

5. Homeworld Mission 1: Kharak System.
Reason: It's the "destiny" idea again, although this tune has a New Age flavor.

6. Lothlorien (Enya).
Reason: I always did enjoy a good fantasy story.

7. The Mummer's Dance (Loreena McKinnet).
Reason: Same as for 6.

8. Victory Day (No Fear).
Reason: Listen to it. You'll figure it out.

9. The Homes of Donegal.
Reason: It's about an Ireland that is no more, but tis me farewell salute to me own homeland.

All are instrumentals, except for selections 7, 8 and 9, which contain singing.

Although I didn't like the game Baldur's Gate, some of its instrumental music, such as most of the temple tunes and also the "hiking the great outdoors" tune would be suitable for playing at my funeral.

Looking at some of the other answers, I'm going to assume most of them are some younger than me. Be that as it may, they seem evenly divided on music or no music. The traditional hymns are not in favor. Being non religious, I will have a Life Celebration with family and friends invited to eat, drink, laugh remember and maybe cry a little if it seems appropriate.
I will be cremated by the Neptune Society and my ashes returned to a trusted family member. He will also have the money for the party, which I will have given him. They'll maybe play Sinatra's My Way, Simon & Garfunkle's Bridge Over Troubled Water,
Garth's The Dance. Some Native American flute stuff. Then The Ride of the Valkyries and end it with The Funeral March of the Marionettes. Party Hardy, my friends.

I've thought about this question quite a bit, and I've decided that I want Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber played at my funeral. It was played at both President Kennedy and President Roosevelt's funerals and is one of the most beautiful and emotional songs I've ever heard.

Check out this site for a free sample:

Note: It's usually played a lot slower, but that quality of the recording isn't bad.

I hope this helps you!

Its incredible how this question has racked up so many answers. y'all know that this question was posted like two weeks ago. I will answer it anyway.
There is a song by Lorena mckinnett, Dante Prayer, that if you hear it at a funeral would make any burly man cry. I want to be missed, because then you will never be forgotten. I want to be remembered so fondly by others. I think this song would remind them of me. Plus its not a song that ever comes on the radio so its not as if they will hear it and remember how sad my funeral was. It would just remind them to never forget who I was, ever.

I'll probably have some traditional somber music, and some more contempary stuff. I think these would have to be there:

1) Beatles - Let it Be
2) Pink Floyd - Wish U Were Here
3) Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata
4) Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven
5) Sarah Brightman - Ave Maria
6) Fleetwood Mac - Beautiful Child
7) Rankin Family - Fare Thee Well Love
8) Alan Jackson - Remember When
9) Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli - The Prayer
10) Sarah McLachlan - I Will Remember You

By the way, even with cremation there is still a service. It's more to let your friends and family bring back memories and get over the loss.
