Mozilla is the best and Internet explorer is the worst (but is used widely since Microsoft forces it on everyone). I never heard of amust and I was not happy with opera.
Norton and McAfee are about the same. They catch most stuff and get very naggy when your subscription is expiring.

Opinions will differ however according to person. The best way for you to pick one is to download the installers for each of them, and then install one and use it for a week. After a month you can pick which one you like best and uninstall the rest. Personally, I use IE and FF in combination with one another. You might also try netscape which uses the rendering engines of both FF and IE so it can act as either one.
Avast, I prefer this one to the others
AVG
AOL
Norton
Zonelabs (does this company make anti-virus? If so, I will check it out to see if it is any good, until then I will place it at the bottom of the list)

Mozilla
Opera (Faster but too secure and not enough flexibility)
Amust (never heard of it, but it has to be better then IE... What could be worse?)
Internet Explorer... (Sucky.)
AVG (Not as good as AOL, but this isn't a trial vr ;) )
AOL (A trial version for only 100days, but it uses the worlds leading antivirus's engine, Kaspersky)
ZoneLabs (I never heard or use how good it is, but I know it has to be better then Norton and that other crap..)
Crap list.
Macaffe (Is better then Norton but not as good as some FREE software, slows down computer and it leaves crap behind when you try to uninstall it..)
Norton(Worse of them all, it makes installing a pain and renewing a pain... Expensive and it slows down your computer.. I think this is like a spyware... But even worse... This thing doesn't even catch viruses, I had 50 when I scanned with my current AV.. Before I had Norton Internet Security 2006)

The most important question to consider is do you have a genuine copy of Windows. Without it Microsoft does not deliver updates to patch security holes. If you do not, switch to Mozilla and only use IE on sites that require it.
Most of the the viruses are written to attack flaws in IE, which makes Mozilla more secure. I find it less of a hassle to switch to IE for the very few sites that require it than to repair viruses.

I like Mozilla Firefox, my husband prefers the new internet explorer. I can't get used to the IE tool bar, so I don't use it. Mozilla seems to respond a little slower on my computer, not a clue why. I don't have experience with the other applications.

Personally, I like Internet Explorer best. Mainly because the majority of sites are made with it in mind. Things just seem to look better on it. On the other hand, the latest version (7.0) looks great and has some great features, but seems to still have some bugs in it.
1. Internet Explorer
2. Firefox
3. Opera
4. Defender
As for the Antivirus programs, I definitely prefer Norton/Symantec (now the same company). It doesn't seem to slow my computer down noticeably, like McAfee does.
McAfee is provided free through my ISP, but I uninstalled it because it slowed my computer WAAAY down, especially at startup. I've seen this on several computers with McAfee. AVG is pretty good and doesn't slow things down, plus there's a free version.
1. Norton/Symantec
2. AVG
3. Zonelab
4. AOL
5. McAfee (only if it's free and you like waiting around for your computer to load up).

Anything but Insecure Exploder
Computer Emergency Readiness Team:
"There are a number of significant vulnerabilities in technologies related to the IE domain/zone...It is possible to reduce exposure to these vulnerabilities by using a different web browser"

As of Nov 10 IE 7 is 100% unpatched, this equals ID theft, ruined PCs etc.

Mozilla based:
Firefox
Nutscrape
Opera
Internet Exploder is the worst.
I use AVG 7.5 , Spybot S&D and Adaware for total system check & clean.
Sygate Personal Firewall to keep the baddies out and trap ALL the spyware ( including WindBlows and other " Phone Home " types. ( They were so good that Symatec bought the company & you pay for it now )

I HAVE BOTH IE7 AND MOZILLA FIREFOX. I USE IE7 AS MY START PAGE BECAUSE MY ISP IS NETZERO AND WITH THEM YOU HAVE TO HAVE THEM AS YOUR OPENING PAGE, I DON'T LIKE THAT. THE IE7-NETZERO GETS MINIMIZED AND I WORK AND SURF FROM THE MOZILLA BROWSER. IF I'M WORKING AND NEED INFO, I'LL FIND IT ON IE7 AND BE ABLE TO MINIMIZE BOTH PAGES AND TYPE FROM ONE TO THE OTHER. AS FOR SECURITY I'M A BIG, BIG FAN OF MCAFEE. WHEN I FIRST GOT MY LAP TOP 2 YEARS AGO I GOT INFECTED. WENT WITH MCAFEE ANDE THEY HELPED. BEEN WITH THEM EVER SINCE. ALSO THEY HAVE SPYPROTECTION, SECURITY FOR PERSONAL DOCUMENTS, ANTISPAM WHICH REALLY HELPS, MY EMAILS ARE THE FREE KIND AND YOU ONLY HAVE SO MANY YOU CAN X OUT.
DOES THIS HELP?
GOD BLESS
