All you need is a minor in Biology to get in. You can do almost any major you want. The majority pick either Biology or Chemistry, but I recommend you try out Sociology of Health Care, Genetics, Psychobiology, or Neurology. The fact that you don't have the generic "biology" or "chemestry" major may make you more competitive. Remember, if you do NOT have at least a 3.0 by the end of your bachelors, there is no (good) medical school that'll ever accept you.

Some Doctor friends and some at university addmissions say that if you have an engineering degree they will take you for med school no matter what. Also the way the sciences are becoming closer to medicine it couldn,t hurt

It really doesn't matter what your major is as long as you take the required pre-med science and mathematics courses. Of course, you can complete a major more readily if it is in one of the areas with a number of hours of required courses, such as biology or chemistry.

I have even seen students with a major in religion get accepted to med school.

do either bio or chem. don't do both, cuz you'll most likely die before you get to be a doctor. med schools will require some bio, some chem, some physics and english and logic classes. so be sure you have all of them taken care of. otherwise, you're basically free to major in anything you like.

Do not do pre-med. that's what most applicants do, so you need to set yourself apart. like someone else said, major in what is most interesting to you, or if you think you'd like it and do well, engineering. people in all kinds of fields hire engineers b/c it tells them you work hard and have critical thinking skills.
