The following is a survey for my college group project that i am doing on euthanasia, could u please take the time to fill out the following questions, it would mean so much to me. In addition, if u could kindly add your age, and indicate how religious are u. Thank you sooooooo much.

Questions:

1) Would u be willing to donate your organs? yes or no and why?

2) What are ordinary means and extraordinary means to you?

3) Do u think euthanasia should be legal or illegal?

4) If a member of ur family were terminally ill and asked for ur help in ending his/her life, what would u do?

5) Do u mostly agree with passive or active euthanasia?
(passive is letting the patient die without any further treatment being taken, and active is injecting the patient with a lethal drug to make them die quicker).

1. Yes, I would. It would be nice to know I could help someone to live a better life.
2. "ordinary means", to me, refer to routine, usual, natural procedures (such as dying of natural causes); "extraordinary means" refer to procedures that are not customary (unusual, unnatural, such as euthanasia);
3. This is a tough question because it involves legal and religious issues. To me, euthanasia is somewhat similar to the death penalty in the sense that someone has (or will have) the legal right to end someone else's life. When I think of both issues, from a detached standpoint, it seems OK for a doctor to end a terminal patient´s life and for the State to "kill" a criminal by lethal injection. That's because I am not the one who will be responsible for those "death sentences". However, if a relative of mine were in a vegetative state and I would have to pull the plug (so to speak), seriously, I doubt I would do it. It´s a matter of principles. Long story short, even if it were "legal", deep down, it would still be "illegal".
4. cf. no. 3.
5. If I had to choose between the two, I would definitely prefer "active euthanasia". It breaks my heart when I think of Mary Schiavo. The way she was treated, to me, was inhumane.

1) Would u be willing to donate your organs? yes or no and why?

yes, because i'm dead then anyway, i don't need it anymore. there are people who needs it more than i do.

2) What are ordinary means and extraordinary means to you?

honestly, i'm not quite sure what you mean with this question. ordinary means normal, extraordinary means mother teresa

3) Do u think euthanasia should be legal or illegal?

it should be legal, yes, but as with a lot of things, it needs to have some restrictions on it. for some people, death is a huge relief, but nobody without health problems should be allowed to do it.

4) If a member of ur family were terminally ill and asked for ur help in ending his/her life, what would u do?

i would hole up and cry for a week or so, and then i'd help that person get what he wanted to end his suffering. it'd be selfish of me to keep him here if he suffered.

5) Do u mostly agree with passive or active euthanasia?
(passive is letting the patient die without any further treatment being taken, and active is injecting the patient with a lethal drug to make them die quicker).

i agree with both. depends on what the patients want.

i am 18 years old, i'm agnostic.

1) I would be delighted if another human being could benefit from any organ my dead body could provide.
2) This question is written in an ambiguous way so my answer is also perhaps not clear. Ordinary ways to me signifies letting nature take its course, the use of pain killing medication to speed death or the removal of life support systems. Extraordinary ways would include beating the patient to death with a large rock.
3) Yes with a great deal of supervision - at least three doctors agreeing that the prospect of any form of reasonable, pain free life is extinct.
4) If I were convinced that all reasonable forms of life were now out of the question I would help.
5) In most cases passive euthanasia is sufficient but I personally would welcome active euthanasia were my condition to be such that I would have to suffer long term distress without hope of recovery.

I am a male, 65 years old and a confirmed atheist.

Yes,I have full intentions of donating my organs. While I have not filled out a legal will yet, everyone I know has been told that, when I die, my wish is for them to "Take what can be used to help someone else and burn the rest." No sense keeping what I can't use and it may save someone elses life.
2.If I get you right on ordinary or extraordinary means, my definition of ordinary would be "totally paralyzed, including proper cognitive activity" If I can't think for myself, let me die. "Extraordinary" would mean a coma where a person is kept alive simply by machines. If there is no way of letting me exist without machines, let me go with my dignity intact.
I think euthanasia should be legal.
I would help a member of my family to die if there was no hope.
Passive euthanasia is often the best way. It is easier on the patient and family. Gives them time to say "Goodbye".
