How do we define our race when we have a bunch of different ones mixed around? My grandfather is half Native American and my grandmother is half white. On my father's side my grandfather is predominantly black, and my grandmother has some stuff mixed, but i belive she is mostly black. I have a light-skinned complexion. What do I put on an application? Also I believe the government defines race as what was your father, but why do they not pay any attention to the mother? I'm kinda bored and just wanted to know.

I don't think I would be considered biracial, since i thought your parents had to be predominantly one race different from the other.

Interesting question!! On most applications that I've filled out it usually says, "Check all that apply" when it comes to the race question. I'm sure that there may still be some that kind of push for you to only check one. In your case, if you feel that you connect and belong to all of these diverse ethnicities then I would definitely check all that apply. If you feel that you connect more, and feel more apart of a specific race then only check that one. But, I think it is really okay for you to feel that you are not just belonging to one race. All of them run through your veins and make you who you are. Hope I helped some!

My children are biracial but that's not really the correct word since bi really means 2 (doesn't it?)...My husband's 4 grandparents were all from different countries so my children are really mixed, not just bi-racial..For my children, I usually just put "mixed race" when they offer that...although I don't like to say that they are "mixed". Sounds like they are confused. They should really come up with a better terminology for this...

Actually, I wish that those designations weren't on applications because there is only one race, the human race. We all came from Noah and he came from Adam. Most of us are cousins to each other. Hi, Cuz!

The question you should be asking is why does the government care what race you are?

Think about it when I ask you to name two countries where the government was concerned with what race its citizens were, what comes to mind?

Nazi Germany?

Apartheid South Africa?

American Indians and Blacks consider as little a 0.001% to be enough to make you their race.
