Alcatraz was definately worth it. Since you are staying close to Fisherman's wharf, make sure you see Pier 39 (I think). Gray line offers a bus tour of the city, you get to see Lombard street, the golden gate bridge, rice a roni hill, and some other sites that you wouldn't normally see. It isn't cheap but this too is worth it. Avoid Muir Woods.
Make sure you get the San Francisco experience by riding the cable cars, going to Ghiradelli Chocolate, and visiting the shopping district.

See my answer in the question: I'm going to San Francisco for 2-3 days Thanksgiving time.
I forgot to suggest The Legion of Honor Museum, a truly splendid place to visit. The artwork is breath-takingly beautiful and the museum and location are just as fabulous. The museum was designed to look just like the Arc de Triumphe in France.
Oooo, also the Palace of Fine Arts. It is a beautiful place... many movies have been filmed there for that specific reason. It was even used to portray The Vatican in the movie "Stigmata." It was also in "The Rock" with Sean Connery among many other movies.

Cool! Do Alcatraz!
And apparently 'Amber', 'The Hidden Vine' or 'The Redwood Room' are lovely little lounge bars to sit back and have a before dinner drink in. There are apparently some fantastic European restaraunts nearby too. I've never been myself but I have friends who've just returned from San Fran and they loved it.

lucy and ramona and sunset sam?? *LOL* haven't heard that one in a long time. since I live here in teeny little town-land in the midwest (now) I would think there are a million interesting things to see and do in SF. try doing a city search- it will usually give you lots of good ideas for interesting things to see and do.
