Isn't early Novermber, let alone October, too early for all of this Christmas stuff? Doesn't saturation [the season or goodies or food or booze...] rune the otherwise special nature of them?

Dont even get me started! I could not believe my eyes when i saw Macy's setting up their Christmas stuff like A MONTH AGO.

I don't know what is behind it, but we try not to shop at stores that have decided it should be Christmas year round.

Anybody from the retail world out there listening?

Yes, it is way too early. It used to be something to look forward to - all the stores that were "normal" the day before Thanksgiving being totally decorated the day after. Now you have to wade through Christmas decorations to find the Halloween stuff! I am a "purist" - I refuse to even entertain the idea of Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. No matter what the retailers want me to do.

These days more and more people are too busy. Too busy at work, many even travel for work so much. My brother has already got over 100,000 miles in his United Mileage account, and the year is not over. Busy, busy, busy. So, what will the market do, but advertise earl, so the can do they shopping early!
It is only a smart marketing. They know people are going to be buying, and they will provide the goods. By the way, it is not only for Christmas, it is also for Hanuka.

I read in the paper that they start earlier because they hope folks will go ahead & buy early (so it'll still be there) at regular price instead of closer to the day itself when the merchants have had to put stuff on sale. So yes it boils down to commercialism. We're not going to change it so we might as well learn to live with it. Personally, I don't go out & buy gifts, I make them as I am able (thank goodness) to sew, knit & crochet. I'm also pretty good at other crafty stuff. I always try to make something usefull or extremely nice...not just junk that no-one will use.

I started seeing Christmas stuff back in September already....

they think the earlier they put it out the more they will sell. If someone is passing buy the display and see "hey christmas stuff i better start now" and buy the time christmas rolls around they'll have so much stuff they won't know what to do with it.

Does it really matter, it just gives people something to bit*h about.

Could be good reason why everyone sees it early. Maybe retailers need it out because everything is being shipped them in high volume that their is no room in the back to acccept more shipment and they need it out on the sales floor.

Maybe people want to take out Christmas decorations because they want to feel the spirit early. maybe they feel the world will end soon and they want to experience it sooner than normal.

Who are to complain?

I think that they shouldn't start getting their Christmas stuff ready until after Halloween, we usually get our Christmas stuff ready by mid October.

It's ridiculous. I think that Christmas has turned into nothing more but a contest in who can buy the most extravagant gifts.

this is the make it or break it time of the year for retailers.
the ads and stuff will only ruin it for you if you allow it to
