i dont know of any suitalbe games, so no. i would sugest a ps2
(i know they ps3, but $600 is not worth for a game system, especially for an 8 year old.) you can find good games for now such as spryo or something cartoonish, but there is also games for a few years later.
where as gamecube is mostly kid games

The xbox 360 is for everyone to play with. But for 8 yr olds, stick to the T and E rated games.

Besides the addiction and reality of some of the games, I'd say yes. My daughter's have one, they are 10. It took some time for them to figure it all out but is was quicker than I could have done. Just make sure that he's not on it 24/7 and getting him off can also be a problem. I set a certain schedule with my children and it's working. Good Luck. Oh, the games are really expensive so bring him with you and let him pick out what he wants then you won't be wasting your money and make sure they are somewhat age appropriate. Some of the games can be pretty graphic!

hell no unless your son likes playing first person shooters because the 360 is mostly first person shooters and action games. I would suggest getting him the nintendo wii which comes out in the coming weeks because its got alot of games suited for kids under 10 and its only going to be 250$ versus 300$ for 360

I suggest the nitendo wii; it cost much less, is smaller and more interactive, and has more titles suitable to young kids. Xbox 360 is more for teenagers and adults; their games are mostly first person shooters, sports, etc with a level of violence inappropriate for children.

No, unless you're planning on playing it as well. Do you really want to spend that amount of money on something your kid will most likely trash within a week?

Not really. The best type of system to get for a kid would be something by nintendo.
They make more cartoony video games.

No buy a Nintendo Wii instead. It will have more games that will be suited for his age.
