Sorry, I have to sound gender biased.
Deliberately done to generate more discussion.
I know a lot of you would say "men are equally guilty" I confess I'm one of them.
But what thrills you ? The fact that "I know what you don't know . Hehehe" " You really want to know what I just heard ??" or to hurt somebody you dislike ?

I can tell you it's because we usually don't have an interesting life, so we live vicariously through others who do.

It's been proven that people who gossip or read gossip are more happy. Why? Because talking about how horrible someone is or horrible their life is makes people feel their life isn't so bad.
So I'm gonna go with that answer! Just one look at the tabolids can feel great! "Ha ha least I didn't marry Kfed", or "Good thing I'm not a coked up wh**e". /Sigh life isn't so bad after all :oD

All of the above, plus it is a way of making someone smaller so you can feel like a big shot. gossipers of any sexual orientation are basically filled with self-hate and try to project their sense of unworthiness on someone they secretly believe is better than they are.

I used to be the victim of gossip by some very jealous women and if I had done half of the things they said I did, I would still be smiling.

We're hard-wired to enjoy gossiping. It's a way for members of society to discuss which behaviors are most beneficial to the entire society, and to exert peer pressure on the members of society to conform.

The thrill of knowing you're doing something you're not supposed to be spreading. Or maybe just getting back at someone. Either way, it's rather entertaining. (Not that I do it often or anything)

Because women are petty and jealous! We do it to make ourselves feel better! Plus its fun especially when the person you are talking to likes to dish the dirt!
