Good question! In fact, there are lots of them. REAL pirates!
Modern-day buccaneers actively operate up the east coast of Africa all the way to Java on the far east side of the Indian Ocean. Most recently, cruise ships and UN supply vessels have been attacked off the coast of Somalia. Vessels plying the Straits of Malacca and the Java Sea are under constant threat of being taken - this includes vessels varying in size from pleasure sailboats all the way to container cargo ships. It is a very serious problem! Recent insurance estimates of losses due to piracy range from US$13 to $16 Billion!

Keep your ears peeled to the news and you'll hear of it happening every now and then.
