I am about to have knee replacement surgery 12-19. Please let me know what you went through with recovery.

I am already aware of the pain, buising, and PT.

Please be specific on how long you were hospitalized, how long you had to stay in bed before the doctore told you to start moving. Advice on bathing around the incision. Trips to the bathroom?

Thanks for all of your helpful input.

OK, I haven't had it done, but I am a physical therapist and have worked with hundreds of people in both the hospital and outpatient setting.

Regarding hospitalization, most people are hospitalized for 4 days and then either return home with home health or go to an extended care facility until able to safely return home. This is especially true for elderly females who live alone and have stairs in the home. Hospital stays may be longer for those who have had excessive blood loss, experience fevers, are unable to urinate after removal of the catheter, etc. For those undergoing the newer minimally invasive procedure, hospital stay is much shorter with the patient often going home the next day.

Mobilization begins about 24 hours after sugery...sometimes sooner. Many times, the first time people get up, it may be just to "dangle" at the edge of the bed, but all attempts are usually made to get you up in the chair and even walking a few feet the day after surgery. It requires careful monitoring of the patient of blood pressure and for vomiting the first time people are mobilized.

When in the hospital, you will have a foley catheter until you are able to safely walk to the bathroom or a commode with a walker and assistance. Once you are home, you may wish to invest in a "3-in-1 commode" which can serve as either a riser for the toilet, as a beside commode, and a shower chair. This helps to decrease the excursion you must negotiate when getting on-off the toilet.

Bathing is dependent on the advice of your surgeon...some say go ahead, some say sponge bathe until the staples are removed. Once able to bathe, the shower chair is helpful in conjunction with the hand-held shower. Yet, an occupational therapist will take an evaluation of your home set up and your abilities and make appropriate recommendations.

I think that's all your questions.

Best wishes!

Allison, one of the vital headaches of knee surgical procedure is inhibition of the muscle that controls the monitoring of the kneecap. This isn't relatively understood as to why this occurs but it surely does on a steady foundation. There are a couple of matters that you'll do. One is to continuously begin an character endeavor by way of running with the unhurt knee. There are two causes for this. The first is that the frame has a reflex wherein it transfers a few force from the more potent muscle to the weaker one while doing an endeavor. The different is that whilst you do an endeavor with the unhurt aspect first it offers enter to the apprehensive approach telling it what should be performed. So while the injured knee is going to do the motion it has a greater believe for what must be performed. For illustration if you're doing a horizontal leg press laptop you might do three units of 15 reps according to set. The unhurt leg might begin off. The first set might be with a weight that used to be comfy for then you definately relaxation for a million minute. The moment set might be with a heavier weight that makes you're employed tougher however now not all out. You might then relaxation for a minute. The final set might be with a weight that relatively makes you're employed. You might do as many reps with this set as feasible seeking to get to the 15 rep. Now you might do the equal sample with the injured knee. Here you might begin with a gentle weight and do the complete first set. Rest for the minute and with the following set you might expand the burden rather if feasible or simply hold the equal weight. Rest after which do the final set. Here if you'll use a larger weight best. If now not then simply stick with the burden that you just have been utilising. With time the knee will capture up. If you're doing terminal knee extension sporting events they might even be performed the equal approach. Doing the events this fashion hurries up the recuperation approach. Good success!

The price of knee joint replacement surgery is very low in India as compared to USA, UK and Canada. My cousin also got her hip replacement surgery in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She is totally pain free now. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as all joint surgery is not covered by insurance in USA or by NHS in the UK. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
