It will happen, but exactly when isn't known. Take a look at this website for current risks for those objects that do come relatively close to Earth ==>http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/risk/

Short answer -- No.

More detailed answer -- Astronomers have detected and plotted over 200 Potentially Hazardous Asteroids whose orbits may, mind you may, bring them close to the Earth. There is a scale (Torino scale) that is used to provide an assessment of the danger to Earth from these PHAs. As far as I can remember, there is only one PHA whose rating even hints at a possible impact within the next 50 - 100 years.

That aside, there is always the chance of a major impact taking place any time. Project SPACEGUARD is designed to detect all potential impactors such that preventive steps may be taken. Will/would they work? Nobody knows although there are proposals to test some of the concepts out on known "safe" asteroids.

One significant historic concept is that the dinosaurs grew to become extinct tens of millions of years in the past through fact of a super meteorite smashing into earth. it may take place back, however the probabilities of it happening are, no pun meant, astronomical. think of of the earth as a objective on a field. Now if that concentrate on have been say, 500 yards away, you ought to hit it with a rifle bullet {the meteor} yet in area it would be greater like the objective earth being 500^30 or 500 with 30 0's in the back of it in distance. Its not very probable. i think of we are going to kill ourselves with international warming and over inhabitants long earlier we ever hae to fret a pair of meteor.
