The worst thing that Alabama could do would be to fire Coach Shula too quickly. I know that his record since his arrival in Tuscaloosa is not what the 'Bama faithful would like, but living in the shadow of "The Bear" is not easy. Living up to those standards is next to impossible. For example, I am an Oklahoma fan. If you look at the interval between Coach Wilkinson and Coach Switzer, there were exactly 3 different head coaches who tried to carry on the legacy. Between Coach Switzer and Coach Stoops, care to guess how many different men coached the Sooners? That is right, 3. I wonder how many different coaches USC or Texas have had between National Championship winning coaches?

Very seldom is a new coach able to take over after a legendary leader and achieve the same level of success. By removing any coach too quickly you actually lengthen the time that it takes the program to the level that the fans desire.

I think it will be another year before the UofA pulls the trigger.

But, if they do, who will want the job? Yes, I know it's one of the storied programs in college football, but with crazy fans, meddling alumni, playing and recruiting in the SEC, and dealing with impossible expectations based on a time when parity in NCAA football didn't exist, I wouldn't take the job on a bet.

Instead, the coaches who are going to succeed are better off going to a mid-level school with a renewed committment to making their program work. The coaches at Wake Forest, Rutgers, Louisville and even Vanderbilt have all gone in where the expectations were rock bottom, and began building a program over time. If I were a coach, that's what I would want to do.

He will more than likely lose his job.
I know as a "BAMA" fan it is a hard pill to swallow that we are having a poor season.Sure the logic is the team is only as good as their coach, but the coach is only as good as his players. When Bryant was coach there were players that respected the game and coach.Today there is no respect. So to build for the championship next year let's give more playing time to the young players, the future.

It's time for him to start looking. I actually think he is a good coach in a situation that is not wonderful. A new start and he will be fine.
