Try this: Based on the number of souls that have died over the centuries, ghosts, if they existed, shouldn't be hard to find at all. Point out that on the Travel channel's "Most Haunted" series where a crew goes to a new 'most haunted' place every week they never have captured a ghost on video! Nor has the Sci-Fi channel's "Ghost Hunters" series. You may want to point out that if ghosts exist that it would be logical for them to appear on security cameras and surveilence cameras all the time...but this seems to never happen. Sylvia Browne appears weekly on the Montel Williams show and tells people on the show that she sees their deceased loved ones "standing right beside them". But the cameras never catch anything, nor do the microphones. I heard a skeptic put it this way, and it's the most plausible explanation I've ever heard: "There are no haunted places, just haunted people." Good luck with your debate.

There's plenty of times ghost stories have turned out to be fake for one reason or another.
A basic thing I heard on halloween was Newton's third law. If people believe ghosts can pass through walls and stuff, how come they don't fall through the ground? Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. The ground reacts to us standing on it by holding us up against the force of gravity. If you say ghosts are not subject to gravity, then why don't they float off into space? Why would ghosts be subject to the laws of physics some of the time, while not at other times?! Does it make any logical sense? No because ghosts aren't real.

1) Every time I count my sheets they are still there
2) If people either go to Heaven or to Hell, what are they flying around in a white sheet for?
3) If so many people have seen ghosts, how come nobody have taken pictures or recorded voices
4) EITHER you are dreaming about dear friends/family that you have lost OR you are seeing ghosts. What is more likely?
5) The people that claim the existence have the burden of the proof. How well have they done so far?
6) Why do psychologically unstable people seem to see more ghosts than other people?
7) James Randi has promised $1,000,000 to the person who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event. He still has his money...

Newton's third law states that for every action in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction. In other words, if ghosts can walk through walls then they can fall through floors. If they can walk through a tree then they could easily get blown away by the wind.
Also the human brain is governed by electromagnetic pulses. Ghosts appear in areas of high electromagnetic activity. Obviously this electromagnetic activity is interfering with someone's mental functions and causing them to see things that are not there.

OK, you can't prove a negative. You can't prove "there are no ghosts." But, you can prove something like: "Many so-called 'ghosts' can be explained by natural phenomena, like swamp gas for glowing lights." "Many people are fooled by their own memories and desires for ghosts to be real." Evidence for that would be studies where people made up evidence after witnessing a "crime". Steven Pinker has several great books that touch lightly on how the mind can fool itself into seeing what it wants to believe.
For me, I think one telling point is, "If there are really ghosts, how come people can't make contact with them whenever?" Because lots of people really, really want to communicate with the dead, but just can't make the connection. When Harry Houdini died, he promised his wife that if he possibly could, he would, and he would use a keyword. But, according to his wife, he never made post-death contact. A good debater will figure out lots of reasons why Harry couldn't come back and argue there are still ghosts, but that is a classic piece of evidence for why there is no such thing as ghosts. Search it, and see what else you can come up with.
P.S. I hope to whoever that there are no such things as ghosts. I know some people who I'd hate to see have the power that ghosts are supposed to have! I want them dead, buried and food for the worms!

Since it's a debate, you don't really need evidence. You just have to be convincing. Try www.csicop.org and here's another that I ran across: www.randi.org
Even Houdini spent loads of effort exposing false claims of mediums. Point out that people may be very sincere, but that doesn't keep them from being very gullible.
You can't really prove a negative, though.

I'm afraid that after having investigated over 1,000 "haunted houses", with the Grant I got for the Research, I was only able to submit the fact that we had found no real evidence of such a thing.

The evidence is only one... no ghosts at all.
Invite those that believe on them, to prove that they exists....
Would you spend all your life looking for ghosts, even at mid day, and none should be find...
