My nephew just bought two armadillo jones lizards, I have found almost no information on these little guys. Does anyone have any experience with these types of lizards? They are not just armadillo's I found plenty of info on those. They are only four weeks old, not as long as a ten year old's pinky finger! Please help! What kind of substrate to use? Do they need any supplements? What temp should they be kept at? How about humidity? I have leopard gecko's, but I am sure they are different in need. Thank you ahead of time for any info given!!!

Actually!! Here's a great website or two for those CUTE little lizrds!

Fast basics:

UVB - you need a good source. Not all UVB lights are created equal. Some decay very quickly. You need no less than two 4' flourescent UVB tubes. Short version - UVB helps the lizard to process the calcium in their diet. Without the UVB...the calcium does not get absorbed and the result is Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) and renal failure. The brands to go with:
Reptisun 5.0 or 10.0
Iguana Light 5.0
Exoterra 8.0
Arcadia 5.0 (UK)
...or:
Mega Ray EB (external ballast)
http://www.reptileuv.com

Many of these can be purchased at http://www.reptiledirect.com for a more reasonable price than the pet stores. Once you provide these lights for your lizard...set them in the 6" - 8" range...12" -18" for the Mega Ray. Any farther and the UVB drops of so much that they don't do any good.

Temps - 90 - 100 F basking area, 80 - 85 ambient, 70 - 75 cool end. To achieve these temps you need no less than a 50-55 gal. aquarium.

Substrate - Because they are a desert animal, play sand is a great substrate. Do NOT use calci-sand or one of those other pet store "healthy" sands. These can cause serious impaction.

Humidity - About 45%

Keep in mind two males DO NOT get along!! They are extremely territorial! Provide hides for them. These lizards can stress easily. Provide a shallow dish of water at all times.

Yea i owned 2 of them for decades, (extra of a dismal brown Lizard w/ a Spiky Tail than a Armadillo) nicely first of all trust me or not i am going to inform you the reality. they're "pickier" eaters than Boa's and they are extra of a snake than a Lizard. For experts purely and are way extra weak to bitting than maximum Lizards are. they'll eat warmth mice that you've thawed from PetCo or everywhere else and they love mealworms even as there small purely to make confident you do not waste any funds reduce a dixie cup and get some mealworm and use the dixie cup as a bowel. also if there both adult males they're EXTREMLY terratorial and could strive against one yet another many times although you may not observe. this may lead on on to rigidity. you should have atleast a 20 gallon tank and that is rather extremely pushing it. So attempt mealworms first i wager you that works.
