I was in girl scouts when I was a kid and enjoyed it quite a bit and I'm sure I got a lot out of it but didn't continue. It allows kids to learn about all kinds of things and do projects which teaches them responsibility and gives them something to try for. I just wonder what happens if the kid grows up to be gay do they kick him out?

I never fished as a kid. My dad didn't fish and I don't fish now. Therefore- my son never fished... until his Scout group went and he enjoyed it.

Ditto for bowling, canoeing, and many other things.

Well-run youth programs can offer your kids opportunities far beyond what school or your own family can offer- they will get to do things and go places they would never be able to do otherwise.

They also learn leadership, planning, self-reliance, and many other skills that just we not as likely anywhere else.
