Why do women think too much? I have to say, though, not all women do, but the majority think too much- including me. What is it about us that makes us think the way we do? I'm very curious about the topic, so I really appreciate any educated answers as well as any guesses / theories!

It's no surprise that our fast-paced, overly self-analytical culture is pushing many people-especially women-to spend countless hours thinking about negative ideas, feelings, and experiences. Renowned psychologist Dr. Susan Nolen-Hoeksema calls this overthinking, and her groundbreaking research shows that an increasing number of women-more than half of those in her extensive study-are doing it too much and too often, hindering their ability to lead a satisfying life. Overthinking can be anything from fretting about the big questions such as "What am I doing with my life?" to losing sleep over a friend's innocent comment. It is causing many women to end up sad, anxious, or seriously depressed, and Nolen-Hoeksema challenges the assumption-heralded by so many pop-psychology pundits of the last several decades-that constantly expressing and analyzing our emotions is a good thing.

You will have to check out her book. It will answer all your questions. Womans brains are wired different than mens. Of course her book is called, "Women who think too much".

I'm going to take a biological approach to this one.

Human females develop emotionally before males. The pituitary gland in the brain secretes particular hormones once puberty has been reached (again, earlier than males) and so they are, for want of a better term, more emotionally complicated. As a result, they do a lot more thinking.

Males tend to suppress emotion, because of social pressure. Without showing too much emotion, they can enjoy brutality, rough sports and video games without having to care about anything in particular. As a result, they do much less thinking.

Just a theory. I guess it could also be social. Society cultures males to enjoy said rough sports and video games, and society cultures females to less physical or violent pursuits. Maybe the world is subconsciously fostering women to think more?

Women think and verbalize more because in doing so they find themselves. When a women talks its not for getting solutions, its just for someone to hear her. In doing so she finds her own answers. It clears her mind and helps her see things through. Men instantly will give answers to womenly problems because they are mostly problem solvers, remember they are hunters, they are go getters. Besides women like to break things down to see things clearly. Clarity is the word.

I think men think just as much as women, and vice versa. I hink that if anything men are prone to make a decision faster than most women....but thats just an over sching generalization.

Because we as women look at 3 different point of views on every situation, while guys only look at one paticular way a situation is.

I don't have a educated answer, but I just wanted to say, "I'm so glad there is someone else having this problem". I actually talked to a therapist Thurs. & told her I wish I could just shut my mind off sometimes, as it works constantly & tires me out.

I think women think just as much as men, but women feel more comfortable vocalizing their thoughts.

Women are naturally born nurturers, and we think more because we are constantly worried about what could happen if we did such-and-such? What would happen if I didn't? How would it affect others?
