Serious answers here: do you enjoy going to your office Christmas party. I have been at my job a little over two years - they do a big holiday party at a banquet hall with an orchestra, food, drinking.etc. More than 300 employees and their spouses, guests attend. I have declined each time...I love my job and like my co-workers. But I hate to mix my personal life with my professional life. Plus I can't imagine that it's much fun for spouses when the conversation turns to work-related stuff ...what are your thoughts?

I always hated them. One year we all took a dinner cruise. 4 hours trapped on a boat. Ugggh!

The only time I ever really enjoyed myself was the year they closed the office at noon and took everybody bowling. Nobody had to get dressed up, no spouses being uncomfortable around a bunch of people they don't know, plus they ordered a bunch of pizzas so nobody really had to mind their table manners. They gave prizes for the lowest score, highest score, most improved, oddest delivery, etc. Everybody had fun, nobody got drunk and said things they shouldn't and then needed a cab to get home.

Other years I always went expecting to have a good time, but ended up just enjoying a nice meal and then wondering if it was too early to bolt.

You could always go for the dinner and enjoy the fact that your company is providing it for you. We always had door prizes at ours. One year I got a gift certificate to a really nice store that I would otherwise not have been able to shop at.

If you don't want to go, then don't. However, since you've never been, you could give it a try. You and your spouse might have a lot of fun. And if you don't, you can always leave. I always loved office parties when I was working. I wouldn't recommend torturing yourself by going and being miserable, but it wouldn't hurt to go and see. I don't think going to a Christmas work party is really the same as mixing professional and personal. I think that's more bringing your home life issues to work and letting it interfere with your job. It's your choice, though.

I can understand your misgivings about going, although I enjoy my office party every year. I work in a small office (only 7 employees), we usually have a nice dinner somewhere and do a small gift exchange. Granted this is not on my husband's favorite things to do list, but we each attend each others parties with a smile. This is where the give and take comes in on a marriage.

I hated going to my office Holiday parties but I thought it was important that I show my face or the partners might be insulted. It would be different in a large public corporation I would think. I agree don't make a habit of mixing personal with professional life.

I don't know about your company the company I work for is a little smaller but we are a family at work besides you should try it it is kind of funny when you hang out with co-workers outside of work no one wants to really talk about work
I hope this helps besides you cannot knock it until you try it and then also its not like you are dating someone from the office
