Piston 1 in Figure P9.24 has a diameter of 0.30 in. Piston 2 has a diameter of 1.3 in. In the absence of friction, determine the force, , necessary to support the 500 lb weight.

ive done this about 10 different ways and keep getting the wrong answer. any help will be appreciated, thanks a lot guys!

Hi. Your link is bad. Usually there is a pressure applied to one of the pistons and the other exerts a force based on area difference. Twice the area, twice the force. Your ratio is .3 to 1.3. Hope this helps.
