Actually, no one knows for sure. Of course, on the outside, he was an "anti-comunist." But then, so was just about everyone else in the country. Most people agreed with him that if there were commies working in the State Department (or anywhere else in government), that wasn't a good thing.
"The McCarthy Era" wasn't all that long. He only caused a fuss for three or four years, starting in 1950. What most people think of as the McCarthy Era started WAY before that, at least as far back as 1938, with the Dies Committe and the beginnings of HUAC. Of course there was the "Red Scare" that began long before even that.
What we do know, is that McCarthy was in favor of McCarthy. He picked communism as his issue, and ran with it. He may have been a demagogue, but in the words of one of his enemies, he was "one of the most dispassionate demagogues." In other words, no one really knew whether or not McCarthy even CARED that there may or may not have been commies working in government. He just used the issue to make a name for himself.

there's a grain of actuality to the guy who informed you to "take a historic previous class" in case you're taking a historic previous class they're going to replica the user-friendly mantra that McCarthy was a terrible ogre who destroyed lives with the help of utilising accusing possibility unfastened persons of being communists. they're going to pontificate this fantasy from the liberal bible and scream like a banshee once you question their sermon. Joe McCarthy stated that there have been Communists interior the state branch, amusement and a variety of of different diverse elite American firms. In 1992 the previous Soviet Union released papers that confirmed that the Soviets had certainly had persons interior the State branch and a variety of of different diverse American institutions. inspite of that evidence the left will by no potential admit one among their perfect propaganda victories become a lie.

nice of you to remember him. most of us would rather forget all about him --including his hatred of communism. I do not like it either but to make it a life or no life issue -- including excluding charlie Chaplin (an idol of a comedian) from the USA was...in today's judgment a very regressive decision. the past is the past and history speaks for itself. it was a dark era and McCarthy was a dark figure of that era. i rest my case. now your turn to decide..who gets 10 points.
