In high schools?? Thats a new one. In college maybe. As far as I know it's nothing more than an easy way to be social. I don't know first hand, I usually make friends on my own without group support.

have they have been given fraternities in severe college now? yet once you mean "what could persuade college newcomers to connect fraternities", then my answer is "they desire to belong". college existence is so distinctive from the "sheltered" severe college existence.
