what do people do with their non-functional cars?

You can sell them for parts, or sell them for scrap metal. If its a rare/classic/decent car you can get some money for it. If its a regular junker, you can get it hauled off for free. Some guys make their living off of towing away junk cars and selling them to smelters. A typical car is worth $50-100 in scrap metal.

There are charities that take them. They fix them up and give them to people who have no cars.

I was going to say junk it...but I like scottb's answer better...donate it to the firefighters for use as a demo. Good answer scott.

i would sell my parts on ebay but if it looks decent enough to be fixed i would stick a for sale sign on it and maybe someone would buy it and fix it up.
