Fear of flying can be caused by a person's preference not to die earlier than is necessary in an accident that involves exploding, burning, crashing, and/or drowning or hypothermia - or all of the above.

Some people are fine with what they consider the "normal" risks of living, but they have made the "intellectual" decision not to allow their death to be the result of what plane crashes involve.

Some think flying is worth any remote risk. Some think it isn't.
