Some ghost shrimp would be cool, and they're prettty cheap. You can add a couple more snails too. If you want a cool fish, you could get a couple of dwarf gourami or paradise fish. You could also get a three spot or pearl gourami. Get a school of cories for the bottom (get in groups of 4+), they're really cute and fun to watch. 29gallons is a good size, you can do a lot with it. I wouldn't get a shark though, they need a lot of room (4 foot long tank) to be happy. Common plecos will also get to big, but you could get a bristlenose pleco or a rubberlip pleco if you want.

Don't forget to cycle your new tank before adding your fish and have fun!

You dont want a salt water tank, these are very hard to care for. You gotta have the right salt, and temperature for the fish. Or they could die. Just go for something simple for now, and by the way, Happy Early Birthday!
