15-20% for truly exceptional service,
10-15% for good service,
5-10% for adequate service
Never leave a tip for poor or discourteous service.
Also, never leave tip on the tax. Take the FOOD bill only and leave the above percentages.
A buck or two for alcohol (in addition to the food bill) is appropriate regardless of the alcohol bill.
In many places hairdressers and cab drivers and other service industry people pay the owners for the use of whatever for the day (hairdresser will pay for the chair, cab driver the car), then keep 100% of the income. So when you pay the cab driver $20 for the ride, he's keeping all $20. Same with the hairdresser (she may have to pay $100 for the chair, then keeps all the income). In these cases, since they are already reaping the benefits of the inflated prices, a couple of dollars is more than appropriate, 5-10% of the bill, never more.
BTW, these "tipping" sites are run by people who GET the tips. They'd ask you to double the bill if they could. Wouldn't you?

Good inquiry, do not know of a site, I range from 10% with bad restaurarant service to $175 tip for my golf caddie plus the $75 fee I have already paid for him, for 4 hours work. He makes around $250 and is back home in 4 hours.

15 percent for good service and at least 20 percent for excellent service. By the way, if you use a discount coupon, the proper way to tip is for the entire amount of the bill. Not the amount after the discount.

20% is standard for good service. Just multiply your total bill by .2 and you will get 20% i.e. 10 x .2 = 2 or two dollars 20% of ten dollars
