Both are relative black holes for any talent. At least the 80's had the good 70's bands that were still playing, so I'd say 2000's music is the worst, all we have is the same repetitive rap "music". Anyone else feel this way?

Yeah, there are some exceptions to everything, but in the last 50 years I'd say those were/are the worst two decades by far.

As a few people mentioned, at least some 80's music was so stupid it was catchy, todays music is just offensively bad. I'd say the 70's were the best, you had the best of classic rock all still playingand the original punk movement (The Clash are one of the greatest bands ever).

An answer down there said they didn't like emo/grunge, which is ok because emo is completely worthless and makes no sense (what do these rich American teenagers have to be so emotional about?), but some music labled grunge was pretty good. Nirvana was a pretty good band and Pearl Jam had a few good songs, that's all I really know of grunge but it's worth defending a little.

It's not really fair to judge this decade's music just yet. I thought the music of the 80s sucked during the 80s but now I mostly listen to 80s music on the radio.

In 10-15 years, we'll probably appreciate this decade's music more than we do now.

I have listened to a lot of music over the years and I think there is a decline in quality when we are referring to rock music, but the musicians have to make a living by conforming to the masses. Also during the 70's and 80's many of the great music legends tried to recruit new bands that were coming in. Now if we try to keep an open mind with regard to the whole musical spectrum I have to say that many of the loop holes between rock and country have been filled. Just as Blues had influenced rock during the 60's, it is a continuing transformation with high points and low points depending on your taste. It pays to keep an open mind when listening to music. What you liked yesterday may be different tomorrow.

I'd say 2000's music is worse. There was still some good music in the 80s (Springsteen's Born in the USA album as an example). The early 80s also wasn't too bad.

Chronological order because it particularly is. 60's rule considering grew to become into the real root of the stuff we've as we talk. 2000's suck with the aid of fact we are purely in 2008 and nevertheless have not arise with something to counter the blues and jazz gods. Oh, and you forgot to indicate the Who, Jimi Hendrix adventure, the doorways, Floyd, Simon and Garfunkel, Slade, Tears for Fears, Tangerine Dream, Vince Guaraldi (author of the Peanuts topic track), confident, Satriani ('87), Janis Joplin, and Joni Mitchell.

I have to say the 70's and early 80's was the best. The new stuff these days are really bad and very distasteful. Even the country music today is just plain lame.

The farther away I get from the 80's, the more I like the music -- new wave, hair metal -- classic now. 2000's music? The cr*p I hear vibrating from the boom box bass speakers of every gangbanger wanna-be and low-rider these days is not music; it's the lowest form of noise ever committed to vinyl or plastic -- and to think young people buy this stuff. OMG! The decline of Western Civilization!

Grew up with 80's music and am still listening to it 20 years later. (Listening to an All-80's online radio station as I'm writing this.)

And for the most part, it's all about the memories associated with the music....so that means that I've got modern music that I associate with more recent memories. *shrugs*

All musical eras have their stars and their duds - so the '00's and the '80's are the same in my opinion.

Rock on.

Awwww...I'm an 80's child, I'm offended!! I have so much nostalgia for some of that crap! I think todays is much worse...because sooo much more of the music is based on image and selling to MTV crowd and how you look is how you sell records. Although MTV was around in the 80's, it hardly had any hotties. There is some really great music out there though, you just have to really look. (listen)

The biggest problem is the 'edginess' factor. Most rock & rap today is 'in your face'. The 80'smusic was more fun.

I can't think of too many songs out today that most people will remember in 10-15 years.

I think 80s music was so bad that its kinda cool. Not the best talents but definately a genre in and of itself. Great for working out!
