Look up "the nebular hypothesis". you also are confusing the Milky Way (a disk shaped system of a hundred billion stars or so of which our sun is a part) and the Solar System (our sun and its surrounding planets and other assorted detritus.)

It started off as dust cloud, then each smaller bit got pulled by gravity (or collided) to bigger bits, then bigger bits and so on and so forth.
