I think ive been out of school too long can some one give me the percent of this 12 out of 16, whats the percent? also what the percent of 16 out of 18?

I appreciate everyone who answered the question, but for people who were rude and didnt give an answer im assuming you dont know the answer or you just wanted 2 points. If a person works somewhere but never uses percents or even calculate percents, often its forgotten, simple as that.

take 12 divided by 16. Then multiply by 100 for the percent. The answer to that is 75%. You can do the rest.

The easy way to calculate a percent is to use the form "x is y % of z." In your first case, x is 12 and z is 16. To get y, divide x by z, then multiply by 100. You'll get (.75) times 100 = 75%.
The second one will have a repeating decimal, but you can round down or up as the situation demands:
16 is y% of 18
18 into 16 = .888...= .89 times 100 = 89%.

"Per cent" means simply 1/100, so 80% = 80/100 = 4/5 for example.
To give x as a percentage of y, take the fraction x/y and multiply it by 100%; this doesn't change the amount (since 100% = 1), but it rewrites it as (100x/y)%. Then simplify 100x/y. For example, 12/16 = 3/4 = (300/4)% = 75%.

12 is the part, 16 is the whole
12/16 = 3/4 = .75 is the percentage rate
100*.75 = 75 is the percent

Turn on the calculator function on your computer -
input the following four entries: 12 / 16 and =. move the decimal two places to the right and it will be the percent.
Clear and start over with 16 / 18 and =.

12/16 reduces to 3/4 changed to decimal form is 0.75 times 100 to change it tp percent = 75%
16/18 reduces to 8/9 which changed to a decimal form is ).88888888 repeated for ever and changed to a per cent you would mutliply by 100 which = 88.9% and then you would round up to 89%
