You are looking at evolution incorrectly. It is not progressive and it has no direction. Your question is ill posed.

Well I'm not one of the ones that knows very little about evolution (not saying I know lots, but more than most people my age) but I have some things to say anyway. I would like to think that the truth about human evolution (and hopefully all of it- and the origin of life) will be figured out within the next hundred years. I can agree with you on that one. We might be coming at it from different angles and want a different result, but we agree that a result would be nice. Of course there will be errors, but the good thing about science is that if someone does do something stupid or just makes a mistake, sooner or later someone will pick up on it. That's why we know that things like Piltdown Man are fake. The discovery of mistakes also helps people concentrate on the scientific method, because they don't want to make a similar mistake. Messing up can sometimes be good in the long run. One last thing- evolution doesn't necessarily have to happen over millions of years. It all depends on surrounding conditions, the organisms involved and probably lots of other things I don't know about. In some cases, evolution can happen very quickly. In fact, there have been laboratory experiments in which bacteria appeared to evolve noticably over a period of a few years or even months. Keep learning, it can only be good for you like it's good for all of us.

you'll love physical anthropology.. the whole subject is human evolution and primate studies.. it's facinating

and no, were still evolving and every other life form has evolved just as much just in different ways to suit their needs.

just some interesting things about primates.. ie chimpanzees and gorillas

chimps and humans share 98% of the same DNA

both chimp and gorilla are capable of learning up to 500 sign language words and they have been able to use them to talk about past, present and future. Believe it or not.

Chimpanzees have even been know to teach other chimps..

they use tools too... look into it.. enough said

You need to understand that change in any species is only based on the pressures that are weeding out only specific members of the species. For example are squirrels evolving. Well I know that those that hang out in the street because they are not scared of cars are those that get hit. Same with the indecisive ones. I would expect that in one hundred years there will be much fewer squirrels getting hit. Those born with a genetic preponderance to be scared of the loud noise or motion of large vehicles will survive and reproduce more than those who aren't.

Are humans evolving? Are there any selective pressures weeding out only specific individuals. Not really, in fact you could say we are de-evolving. Those who would have died before reaching puberty are now given the chance to do so with modern medicine. They are passing on their genes. I'm not saying this is bad, it is just a fact. Everyone should have this right to reproduce (even the idiots who I would wish didn't).

Again, the only evolution is that worldwide we are mixing races more and it will be harder to say you are "X" race or ethnicity. We will have individuals born with a best alleles of several races and those without. Our evolution is random, not Darwinian natural selection.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, mainly because I don't know what you mean by "evolutionary CHAIN".
If you are asking if we're still evolving, then the answer is YES. All species continue to evolve (unless they die). So, we are still evolving.
If you are asking if we're the furthest "branch" on the "tree" of evolution, well we ARE for our genus. In other words, looking at the genus "****", we are the furthest along. The others (**** habilis and others) are extinct.
I hope I helped, even if I didn't know what specifically you were asking.

Who knows. We pretty much put the brakes on natural selection, as even the most crippled of people can have kids, but we're also getting to the point where we can manipulate our own genes.

My guess is if natural selection is allowed to take its course with humans again, they would have to become yet more adaptable and develop an instinctive need to make the world sustainable for future generations.
Evolution takes millions of years, so who to knwo what will become of **** Sapiens, perhaps the race will diverge into water-loving and desert-made subspecies.

Yes, in one sense we're the last of our evolutionary chain- unless you believe there are Bigfoots & Yetis out there, all other hominids have gone extinct.

We've got too smart too fast to keep evolving the natural way- it will take another half-million years or so and everything that's going to happen with humans will happen long before that because of culture and technology. We'll 'evolve' into robots/AIs or go extinct.

It depends becuase evolution was only a theory. It can also be that we hitched a ride on the back of a comet. If that is true then yes it would be the end, unless another comet with collides with the Earth causing an impact causinmg alien ancestors to againm spread all over the Earth.

There's no way to know until it actually happens. Humans, and all species, will continue to adapt and evolve as the world changes.

We are eventually going to turn into brains floating in an artificially maintained envirnonment (like on Star Trek), then we will evolve further into balls of blue energy (like on Star Trek).

No. Really. We will.

OKay, people have theorized that the next thing to go on humans will be the baby toe.. (I don't want to think further than that. I do eventually want hooves, though, not split hooves like deer and cow and pigs, but hooves like horses.)

Well hopefully we will all evolve into modern day Chuck Norrises, with uncanny strengh, speed, and an absolutely amazing roundhouse kick.
