My boyfriend and I got married in the court house, so right now I have my marriage certificate, but we never signed the marriage certificate or got it notarize, but our names show up on a website my friend gave me, with our marriage license number. Does that mean we are Legally married? Or we are legally married if we have both sign the marriage certificate and got it notarize to get the marriage license?

marriage license must be signed by bride, groom and the official ,and notarized and filed. the actual vows are ceremonial only. the paper is the legal document. basically you can show up to a justice of the peace or judge or priest and have them sign you marriage license, then file it and your married.

I got married in a court house ..(to have a wedding in Germany, soon). I am legally married. You should have applied for your marriage liscense and signed that paper and then when you showed up in court the judge, a witness, you and your husband should of signed the marriage certificate. The court notorizes it and if you need copies of it you have to pay for them. If it is not signed I would go back to the court house and tell them what happend. Maybe you can print the info off of the internet and take it with you to the court house just in case you need proof.

My parents got married in a court house and yes, they are legally married. I'm not too sure about the whole marriage certificate thing though.

I got married in a court house. The judge said "you may now kiss the bride" so, we are legally married. He was able to, legally, marry us. We are now married. You do not have to have the document notarized BUT there should be at least one witness. Since you were looked up as a legally married couple my guess is that you are legally married but it also sounds like it wasn't "witnessed". I would look into it. Call the court and ask. You may look stupid but, you NEED to know.

i don't know what state you live in, but i got married in a court house too. they only give you a copy of your marriage license, not the actual certificate. the certificate you have to send to the state for to get a copy. that would explain why your copy isn't singed or notarized.

Sounds like you're married to me. If in doubt, print out the online record, and take it back to the courthouse with your marriage certificate. Ask them the cross the T's and dot the i's for you on the certificate if necessary.

yes you are legally married! a court house does not play games. when you go before the judge you still are making a legal committment to marriage.

Star20025,
Yes you are if the Justice of the peace is legit and it sounds like he was, you are legally married. A lot of people do this and then latter on they get married in a church.
