If you liked 'Candide', you might enjoy anything by Japanese authors Kobo Abe (perhaps "A woman in the Dunes" or "The Box Man", or Haruki Murakami (Try "Sputnik Sweetheart").

You might also like The Stranger, by Albert Camus, or for something very contemporary but just as "existentially witty", I can heartily recommend "Insect Dreams" by Marc Estrin, (evidently Gregor Samsa was not thrown out with the trash at the end of 'Metamorphosis', but was spirited away and sold by the housekeeper. Mr.Estrin explains what happened next...)
