I was just wondering because today I was going through McDonald's and my car was being blocked by the car in front of it and therefore could not move up all the way. The lady at the window thought that my car was pulled all the way up and asked me how she could help me. My car was halfway in front of the speaker. Is it a sensor or something like that???

As mudsud said...it's the sensor and the stable thingy....but when the alarm is tripped...it is tripped directly to the headset the person is wearing and it beeps in their ear. Also...once they hit the button on the side of their headset to say something to you....they can hear EVERYTHING you say. I loved working drive thru because you could hear arguements, one-sided cell phone conversations etc. So, keep that in mind and turn the radio down....don't bust someone's eardrum because you wanna listen to your radio....wait til you are past the window....

There is a sensor pad on the ground where you order in most places. It triggers a beep or a ding to sound in their ear (on the headset). There is also a sensor at most of the pickup windows (each company has a standard for how fast they want customers in and out). If you pull up too far or not enough they can't hear you. Normally you want your driver's side window even with the speaker box.

Most newer places have weight sensitive sensors in the pad in front of the speaker. Older places used sonar or electric eyes at the speaker to send the signal to employees.

that coupled with camera's and sensors. That way if someone has on a mask and wants to rob the place they have plenty of time before he gets to the window to call police and set off an alarm and get out of the way.

I believe it is some sort of a sensor device either by the speaker or underneath the pavement.

I work at Whataburgers. There is a sensor that beeps when you pull up to it. You can't hear it from your car, but we can hear it on the inside. It's really annoying actually.

there is a sensor (wire) in the earth below your vehicle. It senses the change in the stable magnetic flux waves there and when you drive over it the metal in your vehicle disrupts the "stable" signal and triggers an alarm. Thats how it's done.

enough arguing already.... some places do have cameras, and some do have sensors. Guess it depends on the establishment
