Based upon your question, I assume you are not very familiar with Flat Panel Monitors.
Do yourself a favor and go to the following web page and read the two articles at the bottom of the page titled:
For Dummies: Monitor Buying Guide
For Dummies: LCD vs CRT Monitors
http://tech.yahoo.com/rc/monitors/115;_ylt=Agb4ubbrUESAcPBPicQGnxQFLZA5
These will help you understand what you are buying a little better.
Beyond those two articles, I'd recommend that you buy nothing less than a monitor with 700:1 Contrast Ratio. Watch the Dell monitors. The ones with the great prices are usually 500:1 Contrast Ratio and this will give you text with a visible "saw-tooth" appearence.
The higher the number (e.g. 900:1 or 1000:1) the better the display on the monitor. Of course the prices go up with the number!!!
Here are a couple of really good sites to purchase monitors from:
http://www.tigerdirect.com
http://www.pricewatch.com
Do some homework and then buy.
Hope this helps.

See, monitors are like TV screens. You can link a Sony TV to Comcast cable, can't you? If you connect it to the computer correctly (I reccoment a white Digital Input wire), then it should work. If it doesn't, check that all of the wires are connected and the input is selected to your computer.

Yes, but I would recommend just buying one from an online store like newegg.com or tigerdirect.com, Dell or HP will charge you too much.
