Not in Michigan, it's not. I doubt that it is anywhere else either. The key to reform is getting young people educated and understanding that "life experience" may be better than the piece of paper that says you know how to do what you've done for 10-15 yrs. Stop punishing someone for a crime that they've done their time for so they won't end up doing something else our taxes have to pay for. Stop outsourcing. Don't stop benefits the minute someone does get a job. They may need those last 2 or 3 welfare checks to stay ahead of the game. Create more childcare and ensure transport to and from the workplace. Allow recipients to get more than a GED or a 1 yr. trade certificate. Help smaller businesses with providing on the job training. There are a million ways to have welfare reform. It takes a lot of hard work to barely exist on a welfare check so don't think for one minute that recipients are lazy.

Many more people that use to be on welfare are now working so yes welfare reform has worked but that also has a lot to do with the strong economy caused by tax cuts. Now if we could only get a general overall tax cut for everyone & cut all govt. spending by 25% and you might never need any kind of welfare ever.

This is really a 10 year old question. Welfare reform started in '96 and it certainly has worked.

Of course it is, at least in the states ware it is happening. But here in the great socialist state of Minnesota. Hell no, anyone can drive threw on the way out west can pick up a welfare check and get a medical check up. If your Somali we may even get you an apartment to live in. At the tax payers expense, don't worry about getting a job we can flip the bill.

Yes it's working. Tens of thousands have been moved from the welfare rolls and are working. The problem is that many are not making enough money to escape poverty. And the current program seems to penalize people for pursuing higher education which is the doorway to higher earnings. I think's it's worked well, but needs to be modified to make sure it helps people move towards greater self sufficiency and doesn't just leave them poor without any assistance.

Yes. I think it is working because I'm seeing more and more young moms who are placing their children in daycare while they go out for job training or actual jobs. This was not true several years ago. They just sat back and waited for the next check. Also, in my state they have a program called Welfare to Work that is placing men and women in jobs.

No, we should abolished the welfare. It's making people dependent on the government and costing taxpayers money.
