you wouldn't "do" anything.

Just don't share a needle or have unprotected sex with him/her.

What you can do is treat the person kindly. He/she probably needs to be supported.

i would make sure that there was a class/lesson on HIV, the many many different ways you can get it and the many many ways you cannot get it.

I had a friend (I say had due to her passing) that had Hepatitus C. Alot of people around her thought you could get it from even her sneezing around them, They had no clue how it is transmitted.

Sometimes alot of the hassle a person gets that has a disease like this is cause from lack of education about the disease.

I would also talk to the person and see if there was anything I could do to help, dr's appointments, or just venting frustration, cuz I am sure there is some.

I had cancer three years ago and had to wear the face mask in public. Not because I was contagious, but everyone else's mild germs could have made me very very sick. But everyone looked at me like I was the one that was contagious and stayed away from me.

So basically show as much support and understanding as possible and if you don't understand something about what the person is going through, just ask them.

I wouldn't do anything. A person who has HIV is just exactly like you and me! Except they have an illness. No different than the person you know who has asthma. It does not make them any less a person than anyone else. If you were to ask this person how they would like to be treated, they will give you the same answer I just gave. And guess what, they will not be insulted at your question, if you ask appropriately. Hope this helps you.

I would say it really doesn't matter how the student got HIV, the student should be treated like any other student. There are lots of students carrying diseases (diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, etc.) and you don't treat them differently just because they are ill. You probably don't even know they are ill unless someone told you, or there are visible signs. I say you treat that person with dignity and friendship.

If he/she was a friend I would stay close because they are having a hard time . The will need support from all people to help them get though this time and learn to cope.

If they were not my friend I would offer support and then do the same as I would for my friend

Well unless you are planning to exchange bodily fluids with this person you need not worry about catching it. I think it is very sad for this person however they have caught it. Perhaps you could be their friend and help them when they are really struggling.
A lot of people will probably be very cruel to this person and many others will give them a wide berth. Additionally they will have their life shortened considerably. Please be kind and understanding to this person.

What would any thoughtful and compassionate person do? I would be very sympathetic, be as supportive as possible, and act as I would if someone had any other chronic and incurable disease, such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis, or cancer. And I wouldn't give a hoot in hell how the person was infected.

That depends on whether I actually knew the person and if I liked them.

At the end of it, I wouldn't do anything out of the ordinary, or different from what I was already doing. If I knew and liked the person I'd hang out with them. If i didn't know them, I wouldn't seek them out just because they were HIV positive.

Regardless though, I would not have sex with them.

Due to confidentiality issues, I doubt that I would know. We aren't even made aware of students who have been in trouble due to violence, weapons, or drugs...even sexual offenses. Sounds crazy, but it's true.
But to answer your question, I would not treat him/her any differently than I would treat my other students.

are you planning to have intercourse or become blood siblings with them? if no, then get over it and treat them like you'd treat anyone else... if yes, then go to an insane assylum because you must be crazy to risk getting an S.T.D.
