I have been writing poetry for the last 5 years and it can be emotionally hard for me to write them. When I write more than one I feel drained and kind of sad the rest of the day. I know a lot of people like to read my poems. Is it worth the pain it causes to do something I love but sometimes hate?

No, don't quit. Writing poetry doesn't have to be a everyday thing.
I am a poet also, love to express myself in poetry. I've won money in contest, have poems on the Internet, working on selling a book of my poetry.

You are a deep thinker and a very sincere person, your poetry is most likely on serious subject matter, that's why it drains you. People liking to read your poetry... because it touches something inside of them.

Just take a break. Do somethings that make you laugh, balance is important.

If you love to write poetry and people like to read your poetry, you should continue to write.

Instead of writing a poem every day, you should collect ideas. read other poetry to explore different styles. Then write poetry, like 4 or 5 poems a week.

Long poems could be a great.

Well sometimes it helps writing your emotions down, you feel relieved instead of drained.. but if it causes you pain then you probably shouldnt write it so often just so other people could read it. if you want to let your emotions out and writing isnt the best way tehn find something that makes u feel good... but whether or not you should keep writing is really up to you.

Yes, if you have been writing for that long then you may have some good poems in your repertoire. Life hurts and we have to keep up the good fight everyday. Don't give up ever for anything!

This is a case of "You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't" so unfortunately, my dear, this is a call only you can make. Which is the lesser evil, to write or not to write?

i think poetry is a great way to express the way you feel and maybe incorporate that into your poetry and you might feel better. do it for yourself not your readers..
