You need an antivirus program for your computer. Windows Defender is NOT an antivirus program. And Norton is no good at all. Here you have some good and free antivirus programs to download. Use only one! I recomend Avast.

There has been some confusion about Windows Defender being able to remove Viruses.
If Window Defender detects a spyware program that is part of another virus it can remove both the spyware and virus, but, not a lone virus.
Windows Defender is an excellent program. Most that claim it is worthless know nothing about it. They usually spew what they heard others say. They can never give you any reason for why it is worthless. To these people everything with the Microsoft or Windows name is worthless. It if funny that they still use Windows OS and not Linux.

Yes, You need an antivirus software, Windows defender does not protect you from viruses.

Windows Defender is spyware remover ALONE and it's good at it!
Windows Live OneCare is an anti-virus program (for Windows XP SP2 & Vista)!
Windows deffender wont save you from viruses! It can remove only spywares and SOME viruses. If you have installed Windows Live OneCare, then it's no other AV is required.
Result:
If you are using Windows Defender alone, YOU NEED another anti-virus software.
If you are using OneCare, then no other AV is needed.

Windows Defender, is pure junk an also most experts consider this antispyware to be very poor when it comes to detection.
Nortons, has been garbage for years and continues to get worse each an every year. Resource hog, unable to find a virus, or remove a virus. Plus if you decide to remove you will be left with 350 plus fragments of Nortons hidden all over your system and glued to your files. (You will play hell trying to remove the fragments).

Avast antivirus program is an excellent state of the art free program that has one of the very best background scanners. Will detect in real time a virus and destroy before the virus can enter you system. You will also get two or three times per day automatic updates. Low on resources and has an excellent indepth scanner. Company out of Prauge.

NO-- you need an effective anti-virus program
Norton is not your answer
AVG FREE--- get it at the downloads.com site
Free--updated regularly and extremely good at what it does
and once again---free
Norton once literally backed out of a defensive stance against a Trojan on one of my systems and put up a window telling me that it didn't know what to do about it !!!! Three weeks later they were dunning me for money for my next quarterly payment-----guess what--- kiss my collective ______-----Norton is an enormous mistake for anyone to deal with in my book and I wouldn't trust them with the security of my dog's dish let alone my system !!!

Yes you do need antivirus but there are free options such as AVG, Avast, AOL Antivirus. I would also download a second Anti-spyware tool such as Spybot from http://www.safer-networking.org All are free and very good. When downloading the Anti-virus tools also download a firewall. Zonealarm from http://www.zonealarm.com is free and very good.

Windows Defender is okay,but Norton is pure trash! AVG is the best if you get AVG Anti-Spyware with it.
