my friends son asked this question to me the other day, I have no idea how to answer it, does anyone know why ?

First of all, English is not the only language that has words with several meanings, depending on context (which consists of anything that gives meaning including the message as a whole, the inflection, etc.). The lesson for your friend's son should be that words are just words -- it is CONTEXT that gives the words meaning, and context is dynamic. The wonderful thing is how much fun you can have with language if you play with it and enjoy it. Instead of getting frustrated that a word has more than one meaning, people should enjoy trying some double-entendres (for example).

beacause there are some words that mean the same, a use the same variables, and plus they are really hard words, and could be a pain in the u know what

well my spanish teacher says english is so smart it is stupid because so many words have the same meaning and have many different meanings. Also the same pronounciation as other words are different spellings. like sword sored soared etc.
